What the curators and editors are looking for and content inspiration brief
- Built Environment – Suburban e.g., Camp Hill, Wynnum. Cooparoo,Ashgrove etc. neighbourhoods with people , as well as large urban structures and CBD shots Bridges – BRISBANE has many interesting ones and many angles to shoot from
- Nightlife, shots of any kind at night including a city scape, but also active venues; Jazz, Classical and contempory music venues, Bars, Night clubs, concert stages etc.
- Green and Shady places within and around the CBD
- The Bay
A focus on people, shots of local people working, playing , together with families, etc. Capturing Brisbane people . This is not a book just about iconic “picturesque “ buildings, its about people who live here. Showcasing the extent of Brisbane’s multi ethnicity and diversity through faces, perhaps traditional dress, etc.
CHANGE : photos which juxtapose a bit of old Brisbane with the new are of interest . Also shots of major building and progress , growth , large buildings under construction.
Special choice spots in Brisbane, favourties of photographers.
Wider Brisbane: being one of the largest cities in the world by land area, there are no doubt some great takes to be found at the edges of this vast green expanse, neighbourhoods, old clusters of stores, small communities, with people : this is a story of Brisbane, of course.
The River – a vast number of possibilities , with boats, with the ferries, from bridges, from land.
One sub theme which is developing , is that in a real sense Brisbane is a city of peninsulas , given the bends in the river and the lay of the land – and many of these neighbourhoods along the shore offer very striking views, different views as not often seen. E.G. St Lucia
Markets – Brisbane is arguably the best and greatest open air market city in Australia , and world class in this regard at that. A great subject for showing people and places, settings, of interest , and the goods on sale – especially the abundant and beautiful food products. And the people who come into town, often from the country , e.g. the Cambodian family organic vegetable farmers who appear at Jan Powers Manly regularly, just one example. There are many.
Special sights – there are a few which define Brisbane and deserve our own individual take – or that of a gifted photographer – in this book which purports to be reasonably comprehensive as well as original . The main walking pedestrian street in the CBD ; the cliffs along the river , the wide view from Mt Coo tha above the Botanic Gardens .
As well both Botanic Gardens new and old.
Museums from an original point of view.
e.g. The remarkable Aboriginal western desert painting collection within the Convention centre along the river
Old corner stores with wide awnings – very Brisbane.
But at the end of the day ... images that are quintessential Brisbane.
